On a stride to fortify volunteerism in the Lone Star State, Governor Greg Abbott recently appointed a fresh face alongside reappointing four seasoned advocates to the OneStar National Service Commission. This commission, a cornerstone for Texas' spirit of service, is tasked with guiding the state's AmeriCorps programs and promoting civic engagement throughout the regional terrain.
According to a press release from the Governor's Office, Grace Yocum, a Texas A&M University student hailing from Round Rock, will serve on the commission until March 15, 2026. Her academic focus on management, minor in nonprofit and public service studies, and involvement in various charitable initiatives positions her as an exemplary addition to this service-oriented panel. Yocum's tenure at the Texas A&M Foundation and her leadership role at 180 Degrees Consulting underscore her commitment to the greater good.
On the reappointment front, the Governor has ensured the continuity of expertise with Ashleigh Feuerbacher, Annette Juba, Mike Morath, and Corina Sadler—all of whom are set to serve until March 15, 2028. Each individual brings a wealth of experience to the table. Feuerbacher, as gleaned from the Governor's announcement, not only drives economic development in Stephenville but also mentors youths navigating the foster system. Meanwhile, Juba's dedication to supporting aging individuals in Austin congenially complements her academic ties with The University of Texas at Austin.
Mike Morath, as the current Commissioner of the Texas Education Agency and a former trustee of the Dallas Independent School District, offers insight into the nexus of education and public service. Corina Sadler's role as Plano's volunteer resources manager, coupled with her affiliations to various volunteer organizations, introduces a seasoned perspective on volunteer engagement to the commission's operations.
The OneStar National Service Commission aims to strengthen Texas communities. Recent appointments show renewed commitment to this mission, encouraging Texans to serve and make a difference.
