
On Wednesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott appointed Cory Liu to the 250th Judicial District Court in Travis County, with a term ending on December 31, 2026. The nomination is awaiting Senate confirmation. Liu has legal experience as an attorney with Butler Snow LLP and as a clerk for federal Judges Andrew Oldham and Danny Boggs, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
Liu is from Austin and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Chicago and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. He is the president of the Federalist Society’s Austin Lawyers Chapter and a steering committee member for the Texas Review of Law and Politics. In addition to his regular cases, Liu has an active pro bono practice, demonstrating a commitment to civil service, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.
Liu, an Austin native, has a strong educational background and legal career, preparing him for the 250th Judicial District. He is involved in local chapters of national legal organizations. The Senate is currently reviewing his confirmation, and if approved, he will serve until the end of 2026, bringing his legal experience to the role, as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
