Chaos briefly reigned in Grass Valley this afternoon when an attempted bank robbery on Sutton Way was thwarted as Grass Valley Police Department officers arrived on the scene. The suspect abandoned his efforts and fled, leading to a quiet sigh of relief as no bank staff or patrons were harmed. The police response was quick – crews moved to gather witness accounts and scrutinize business camera footage to trace the suspect's movements.
The story took a sharp turn when, less than ten minutes later, a second robbery, reported in the 200 block of East Main Street, had officers to rapidly deploy once again. The investigation moved quickly; GVPD officers, in cooperation with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, identified 26-year-old Nevada County resident Josh Morris as the suspect for both crimes. According to the Grass Valley Police Department's statement, they apprehended Morris at his residence near Allison Ranch Road around 8:00pm.
The police department affirmed the situation is under active investigation, with officers and detectives pursuing leads into the night. In a issued statement, the Grass Valley Police Department expressed their gratitude that "no one was injured during the commission of these acts." They're now turning to the public for help, asking anyone with additional information to reach out to Grass Valley PD via dispatch at (530) 265-7880.
