Memphis police are currently investigating an incident where gunfire disrupted the early morning peace at Lucille's Blues and Diner, a popular bar and live music venue located on Third Street; the shots rang out at approximately 3:30 a.m., according to Action News 5. Details on the shooter or victims were initially scarce as the investigation was just beginning.
As the situation became clearer, authorities confirmed that three individuals were injured following the shooting at the Southwest Memphis club, with a reported altercation inside Lucille’s transferring its chaos into the parking lot where it escalated further, and two people found in a vehicle suffered gunshot wounds—with one in critical condition while the other was non-critical as per reporting by WREG, and a third party, despite injuries, apparently avoided being shot, two others in the vehicle were unscathed.
Elaborating on the night's events, Lt. Col. Carlos Davis talked with FOX13, confirming that two people had been shot—one in critical condition and the other expected to survive; they also received a report on a third individual taken to the hospital due to a medical issue unrelated to gunshot injuries and two further individuals received treatment on scene following their vehicle being hit by gunfire, though they did not sustain injuries.
There was a history of violence connected to this location, as Davis mentioned a preceding incident in December wherein a man fired on two security guards outside Lucille's after being denied entry, as was reported by FOX13. The suspect in that incident, one Andre Sherrod, faced charges related to the shooting, and the guards themselves were subsequently charged—one for illegal weapon possession and the other a felon in possession of a firearm.
