Habitat for Humanity Cabarrus County hit a significant milestone as they marked their 177th home dedication to a single mother named Tracy. The ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, celebrated Tracy's journey over years of balancing a full-time job and motherhood, with completing a litany of required sweat equity hours to reach her goal of homeownership. Her path to owning a home required persistence, as she had to apply twice before being accepted into the Habitat Cabarrus program, according to City of Kannapolis.
The dedication took on a heartfelt note with Tracy expressing gratitude for the support she received, particularly from her father, who encouraged her to reapply to the program. Tracy took residence in Kannapolis, a city she chose for the sake of her son's education. It was a fortuitous turn of events that led to the City of Kannapolis donating the lot, according to statements obtained by City of Kannapolis, where Tracy built her house.
The event was further sweetened by a surprise from the Warrick Dunn Foundation's Home for the Holidays program. Tracy found her new home fully furnished, an act of generosity by former NFL star Warrick Dunn and his team, chosen in support of their mission to help families find stability in homeownership. "God orchestrated each step of this process," said Willmarie Austin, Director of Development and Homeownership at Habitat Cabarrus, in the City of Kannapolis' same statement.
This Habitat Cabarrus project, like the others before it, underscores the utility of community guidance and support in changing individual lives. Tracy's achievement is shared with a broad coalition of partners and volunteers, ranging from the city itself to the Warrick Dunn Foundation. All played roles in crafting what has become a testament to the power of determination allied with communal aid, Habitat Cabarrus highlighted in their announcement.
