Amidst the outbreak with 198 confirmed measles cases traced back to West Texas, health officials stress the importance of the vaccines. There have already been two reported measles-related deaths, one in Texas and another in New Mexico, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. Citing the urgent call by Houston Mayor John Whitmire, "The remedy is being vaccinated," he declared at a recent press conference, encouraging those unsure of their vaccination status to err on the side of caution and get the shot. This information comes in light of a briefing shared by Houston Public Media.
