The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has named Harry Mathias as the new Chief Recovery Officer for the Steelton-Highspire School District, a move that follows the district's recent designation for financial recovery on March 15. Mathias, who heads up Mathias Educational Leadership Consulting LLC, brings to the table a background in educational program studies and charter school review, as well as experience as a superintendent and educational instructor.
"By placing the Steelton-Highspire School District in financial recovery, we will be able to provide additional support to the community and help them address their unique challenges, restore financial stability, and provide their students with a sustainable, high-quality education," Acting Secretary of Education Dr. Carrie Rowe said, according to Official Websiteof the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In financial recovery, the district will receive oversight and guidance aimed at solvency and academic success, with PDE offering training and technical assistance.
Mathias, looking forward to his new role, will be working closely with district administration, board members, and community stakeholders. "I am pleased to be working with the administration, Board, staff, students and community at Steelton-Highspire School District," Mathias told the press. "I am also honored to serve the Secretary of Education and her team to help fulfill their mission in serving Pennsylvania school students."
With recovery efforts under the vigilance of Mathias, a comprehensive plan now rests in the community's hands. Restoring financial health is a top priority for the district, which has been struggling, looking to secure its educational future. The role of Chief Recovery Officer encompasses coordination with PDE to not only identify but also rectify the financial issues while ensuring the district delivers strong educational services to its students. In his new role, Mathias will be charting a course toward both financial recovery and academic excellence.
