
Hawai'i Island police reported that 15 motorists were arrested for DUI between March 10 and March 16. Two of the incidents involved traffic crashes, but none of the drivers were under 21, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Hawai'i police reported 201 DUI arrests so far this year, a 2.03 percent increase from the 197 arrests during the same period last year. Meanwhile, major crashes have decreased by 3.3 percent, dropping from 209 to 202, as reported by the Hawaii Police Department.
Fatal crashes have decreased by 12.5 percent in 2025, with seven incidents resulting in eight deaths compared to eight crashes with the same number of fatalities in the previous year. The Traffic Services Section reported no non-traffic fatalities for either year, and DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue as part of ongoing road safety efforts, as stated by the Hawaii Police Department.
