A routine traffic stop in Hernando County turned into a drug bust on Saturday. Deputies pulled over a white Ford Expedition after witnessing it fail to stop at a red light, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office Facebook page. The driver, identified as Troy Schuerger, admitted to not having a valid license and disclosed the presence of THC gummies in his vehicle's center console.
During the deputies' search of the Expedition, they discovered not just the mentioned THC gummies, but also methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and two glass smoking pipes. Schuerger was subsequently arrested and slapped with several charges including Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Crack Cocaine, and Driving while License Suspended/Revoked. With the quick turn of events, a flagrant traffic violation rapidly escalated into a serious legal predicament for the driver.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office's report declared, "Upon making contact with the driver, Troy Schuerger, he stated that he does not have a valid driver’s license. Troy then stated that he had THC gummies in the center console." Law enforcement agencies in the region have been particularly vigilant regarding the use of roadways in the distribution of controlled substances.
As for Schuerger, his run-in with the law now places him among the countless individuals grappling with the consequences of drug charges. As the case moves through the legal system, it holds the potential to serve as a deterrent to others who might consider driving without a license or engaging in illicit drug activities. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office continues to employ traffic stops as a means to detect and deter these illegal behaviors in their jurisdiction.
