According to KTLA, the driver navigated the maroon Chevy pickup truck onto the 10 Freeway then weaving westbound onto the 60 Freeway.
The pursuit intensified as it reached downtown, where, CBS Los Angeles reports, the suspect engaged in a perilous dance with danger and law enforcement — driving down the wrong side of the road, and at one perplexing juncture, shutting off the vehicle's headlights while spinning in circles near 8th Street and Grand Avenue. As the chase ensued, law enforcement coverage expanded with CHP covering strategic access points around a parking garage near South Grand Avenue and West 8th Street.
Air support in the form of Sky5 captured the drama overhead but had to depart before confirming the suspect's capture or escape. Details remain sparse as, at the moment of Sky5's departure, authorities were seen barricading the parking garage, as mentioned by KTLA. However, the outcome of the pursuit was not immediately clear and the status of the suspect remains unconfirmed.
With the chase reaching its critical junction amid urban infrastructure, a parking structure near the Whole Foods on Grand Avenue and Eighth Street served as the apparent terminus of the evening's events. FOX LA acquired images of the red pickup truck engaging in multiple U-turns and driving against the flow of traffic before the driver vanished into the parking structure.
