Last week's high-speed chase in Oakland ended with a crash, a manhunt on foot, and two suspects in custody, according to an announcement by the California Highway Patrol's Oakland division. The pursuit, which began last Thursday, saw a silver van hurtle through Oakland's streets, its speedometer clocking over 100 miles per hour.

The events unfolded when CHP observed the van speeding north on High Street around 9:31 p.m. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver escalated the situation to reckless evasion, leading to a tactical discontinuation of the pursuit by ground units. However, the skyward eyes of CHP's Air Unit (A37) maintained a vigilant watch over the van as it tore through the city's arterial roadways, CHP Oakland reported.

The chase culminated in a collision at the intersection of West MacArthur Boulevard and Webster Street, after which both the driver and passenger fled the vehicle. The officers arrested the suspects without further incident.

Upon apprehension, officers uncovered that the passenger had a loaded firearm, adding a serious layer to the night's events. He was subsequently booked at Santa Rita Jail on several firearms violations, including being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm and resisting arrest. The driver faces charges of felony evading, felony hit and run, and resisting arrest.
