Hillsborough County residents are being called upon to weigh in on the new Public Safety Communications Center and Communications Tower proposed for the sheriff's department. According to a Hillsborough County announcement, feedback is welcome through an online platform that will be open from tomorrow to March 30, engaging the community via the hub at HCFL.gov/HCEngage.
This proposed development is part of a larger property exchange approved by the Board of County Commissioners last December, which will allow the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) to relocate from their current base in Ybor City to a more spacious site at 9927 Delaney Lake Drive. The new communications center, taking up as much as 32,000 square feet, and the 160-foot communications tower are essential pieces of this move, designed to bolster the HCSO's communication systems that serve public safety agencies throughout the county. The construction of the proposed center and tower are expected to only begin following the HCSO's successful relocation.
It's noteworthy that the swap involves a trade of five county parcels for a 140,000 square-foot-building sitting on an expansive 25.07-acre plot. Participants in the online engagement have a limited window to submit their views on the matter, ensuring that the community has some measure of say in the development that will undoubtedly impact their daily lives.
For those interested in learning more about the implications of this move on public safety or other county projects, additional information is accessible through HCFL.gov/CIP. This initiative joins a number of capital improvement projects undertaken by the county, with the hope to enhance infrastructure and support services for Hillsborough County's residents.
