Following a disturbance last Wednesday, Holyoke Police apprehended two suspects and confiscated an illegal firearm. The incident stemmed from an argument between juveniles on social media, which escalated to involve adults and ultimately led to threats of gun violence.
Police Chief Brian Keenan shared the details, explaining how officers responded to the scene at 348 Chestnut Street around 9:00 p.m. They encountered Raygiovanni Serrano, who reportedly threatened to shoot during the altercation. Initial measures taken by the officers were to calmly de-escalate the situation, subsequently leading to Serrano's arrest. Serrano was arraigned the next day, required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet as a condition of his release, according to a Facebook post from the Holyoke Police Department.
Further investigation led to a search warrant for the vehicle involved, which was registered to Idaliamarie Orizal. Detectives discovered a semi-automatic firearm along with additional ammunition inside her car. Orizal, who arrived at the police station to retrieve her vehicle, was arrested on firearms charges immediately.
Work alongside the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit proved fruitful as they located and arrested Serrano a second time on Bartlett Street in Springfield. Serrano was booked courtesy in Springfield before his transfer back to Holyoke Police Department custody. The 25-year-old faces multiple charges related to firearms violations, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and carrying a firearm without a license. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Orizal is facing charges for improper storage of a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license.
