A midday hike led to an emergency rescue operation as the Honolulu Fire Department responded to a distress call from the Kuli‘ou‘ou Ridge Trail in ‘Āina Haina. At 12:34 p.m. on Sunday, HFD received a report of a male hiker in his 50s who had injured himself approximately 50 minutes into his hike and could not make his way down the trail without assistance.

According to the official HFD release, a total of 6 units and 17 personnel were dispatched to the scene after the 911 call. The first responders arrived at 12:45 p.m. and started their ascent on foot to locate the hiker. Meanwhile, additional units prepared a landing zone at Kuli‘ou‘ou District Park, gearing up for possible air rescue operations.

HFD personnel reached the injured hiker by 1:19 p.m., conducted a medical assessment, and provided basic life support at the scene. The hiker was then airlifted to the landing zone. Upon reaching the ground by 1:48 p.m., care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services, who took over from that point.
