Constable Mark Herman's office has taken an intoxicated driver off the streets, potentially preventing a hazardous situation. On March 16, a deputy responded to a call about a reckless driver on the Northwest Freeway, according to a statement released on the official Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Facebook page. Witnesses described the vehicle swerving dangerously, triggering the swift response from law enforcement.
Upon arrival at the scene located in the 28300 block of the freeway, deputies identified and stopped the suspect vehicle. Driving the car was 18-year-old Abraham De Loera, who, once interaction with deputies, displayed multiple signs of intoxication. A series of tests were conducted, confirming the suspicions of his impaired state. De Loera's alcohol content was found to be 0.163, twice over the legal limit for intoxication. Moreover, the discovery of an assault rifle in his possession added to the gravity of the incident, as reported by the Harris County Constable Precinct 4.
"Abraham De Loera was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Driving While Intoxicated," Constable Mark Herman reported. The Harris County Constable Precinct 4 mentioned that De Loera's bond was set at a mere $100.00 out of County Court 8, leaving the community buzzing with discussions around the adequacy of such measures when firearms are involved.
Law enforcement's intervention has been praised, as it possibly averted a potentially tragic event given the combination of alcohol and access to a weapon.
