A homeowner in Houston's University Place area fired upon a suspected burglar after an alarm alerted him and his pregnant wife to a potential intrusion, according to reports from Click2Houston. The incident, which unfolded around 11 p.m. last Friday, started when the couple heard noises that triggered their home security system. The husband, described as being in his 50s, confronted a man he found sitting in his wife's car inside their open garage.

The homeowner was reported to have been armed with a gun when he attempted to stop the suspect, who Houston Police Lieutenant Willkens said, "got out of the car." The altercation occurred in a dimly lit area where, according to the homeowner, he was unable to clearly see the suspect's hands. Police say the suspect made to quickly move, which prompted the homeowner to fire two shots, hitting the man in the arm and leg. FOX26 Houston reported that the wounded suspect managed to jump over a gate before the homeowner opened it and asked his wife to call 911.

The suspect was later transported to the hospital and is expected to survive his injuries. He is anticipated to face burglary charges. As of the most recent reports, the homeowner has not been charged. The Harris County District Attorney's Office is slated to review the case. The identities of those involved have not been disclosed.

"Our homeowner is telling him to stop. They’re close to each other. It’s very dark. Our homeowner cannot see the hands of this individual. He made some very quick movements, our homeowner shot twice, striking the suspect in the arm and in the leg," Lt. Willkens stated to Click2Houston. Meanwhile, the suspect reportedly jumped a large gate at the residence before the homeowner was to open it and signaled for his spouse to call for emergency services, as reported by FOX26 Houston.
