A grisly scene unfolded in Houston early yesterday as a man was shot to death following a confrontation in an apartment complex parking lot. The incident, which took place around 1 a.m. at 9001 Kempwood Drive, has now been slated for grand jury review, as confirmed by City of Houston News.
Authorities are still working to verify the identity of the 24-year-old deceased man through the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The altercation left another male with blunt force trauma and in a critical but stable condition at an area hospital. Houston Police Department's HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. LaFour and Detective A. Ledford reported that several witnesses attempted to drive the victim to an area hospital after the vehicle they were in died.
The Houston Police Department responded to the traumatic event, finding the unresponsive body with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department pronounced him deceased at the scene. As officers continued their investigation, they discovered the second male along with signs of a struggle, including fired rounds and a handgun.
Further inquiry shed light on the events leading up to the tragedy. Witnesses say the confrontation started after the deceased male followed the other man back to his apartment post a physical altercation. "The male attempted to force the shooter out of his vehicle to continue the fight. At that time, the shooter fired multiple times and struck the male," elaborated the investigators on City of Houston website. Friends of the wounded man then assaulted the shooter, attempting to get their injured companion to medical help.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office has been brought into the case and concluded it should go before a grand jury.
