Houston Man Sentenced to 8 Years for Gun Trafficking as Part of Project Safe Neighborhoods InitiativeSource: Azcourts.gov

Houston gun trafficker Kevin Lewis, after pleading guilty to aiding and abetting a Material False Statement During the Purchase of a Firearm, has been sentenced to eight years behind bars, according to a Department of Justice release. U.S. District Judge David G. Campbell handed down the 96-month sentence on March 19, which will be followed by three years of supervised release for the 38-year-old Lewis, who, being a felon, was legally forbidden from having guns in the first place.

Not acting alone, Lewis enlisted his wife, Karra Lewis, and brother-in-law, Isaac Godfrey, to acquire firearms for him, which he later sold predominantly in California. Both Karra and Godfrey have been convicted of the same crimes and have received their prison sentences, 18 months and 42 months, respectively. Their arrests, along with Kevin's, were part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative.

The ATF's Phoenix division took the lead on the investigation, with support from the Houston division and local Arizona and Texas law enforcement. All three defendants were apprehended in Houston but prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
