A juvenile suspect has been arrested and referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities following a disturbance involving a reported stolen vehicle and subsequent discharge of a firearm by a police officer. The incident took place around 9:15 p.m. last Friday at an apartment complex near 11900 Oakmoor Parkway. According to an official statement, the 16-year-old male, who cannot be identified due to his age, is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives A. Henderson and J. Windham documented the event, starting with the attempted traffic stop by officers who found the stolen vehicle. When officers approached the vehicle, multiple suspects abandoned the car, fleeing on foot. "During the foot pursuit, one suspect pulled a weapon from his waistband and turned towards officers," as per the official report. In response, Officer K. Smith II, who has been with the Southwest Patrol Division since 2016, fired his duty weapon. No injuries were reported, following which, the armed suspect dropped his weapon and surrendered.

The facts of the encounter were laid out for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office leading to the juvenile's charges being filed. Aside from the juvenile in question, three other individuals were apprehended and charged in connection to the case. Xavier Parker, 18, faces charges including unlawful possession of a prohibitive weapon. On the other hand, Richard Thomas and Damarion Lewis, both 18, are facing charges related to misdemeanor evading arrest and, for Lewis, criminal trespass as well.
