Hyundai has opened its new electric vehicle assembly plant in Bryan County, Georgia, marking the largest economic development project in the state’s history. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the Bryan County Hyundai Metaplant will focus on mass production of electric and hybrid vehicles, representing a significant investment in U.S. EV production and creating 8,500 new jobs in the coming years.

The facility, developed in collaboration with LG Energy Solution for battery technology, supports Hyundai’s goal of producing over 3 million EVs annually by 2030. Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung expressed optimism, saying, "I have never been more optimistic about building the future of mobility with America, in America," in a FOX 5 Atlanta report.

The plant's opening also suggests further expansion, with the project expected to generate 14,000 direct jobs, as reported by WSAV.

Governor Brian Kemp praised the project for creating thousands of jobs and strengthening Georgia’s role in the growing EV market. The facility, already operational, started with over 1,200 employees, including 1,077 from Georgia. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that thirty-three percent of the employees are from Chatham County, 15% from Bulloch County, 8% from Effingham County, and 7% from Bryan County.

During the ceremony, Gov. Kemp highlighted the importance of the investment, noting that it represents Hyundai's strong belief in Georgia and its people. The new facility will boost Hyundai's U.S. vehicle production capacity to 1.2 million by 2028, with an initial goal of producing over 300,000 vehicles annually. However, officials suggested that production could eventually reach up to 500,000 vehicles. Employee Julisa Donahue expressed her excitement, explaining how she now sees the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 vehicles on the road, feeling proud to have been part of their production.
