In a recent operation that underscores the ongoing efforts of federal agencies to combat international drug trafficking, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has successfully removed Amal Said, a convicted drug trafficker, back to his home country of Pakistan. According to an official statement by ICE, Amal Said was removed from the United States on March 5, following his conviction on charges of international narcotics conspiracy and attempted international distribution of heroin.
Previously, Said had been granted parole into the United States by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in New York for the purpose of prosecution where Said faced justice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the court found him guilty and handed down a sentence of 131 months of incarceration, signaling a collaborative triumph for law enforcement agencies.
ICE's encounter with Said took place at Federal Correctional Institution Loretto on Aug. 8, 2023, where they served him with a notice and order of expedited removal, further placing an immigration detainer with the facility. Upon his release from incarceration, ICE arrested and detained Said, who remained under ICE custody during the entirety of the removal proceedings, as mentioned by ICE. Acting Field Office Director Brian McShane commented on the multi-agency effort, proclaiming, "The extradition, conviction and removal of Amal Said, demonstrates the collaborative, whole of government approach that ICE supports in protecting the citizens of the U.S," spotlighting the rigorous work of officers and partners in law enforcement to bring such criminal activities to a halt and remove their perpetrators from American society.
