A hiker was successfully rescued from Mānoa Falls Trail, Mānoa, after experiencing a sudden illness that left him unable to continue his trek. The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) detailed the incident in a recent statement, describing how the alert came in at 9:39 a.m. last Sunday. According to the report, a total of 5 units comprised of 14 personnel swiftly responded to the emergency call.

The first responders arrived on scene just 8 minutes later, at 9:47 a.m., and located the distressed hiker approximately 800 feet from the trail head. The man, said to be in his 30's, had embarked on a hike before he began to feel ill. Despite the sudden onset of his condition, the HFD was able to quickly locate him to administer medical assistance. As noted on the HFD's website, “HFD personnel conducted a medical assessment and prepared patient to be carried off the trail on foot.”

The crew, trained to deal with such incidents, managed carefully to carry the hiker back down the trail. Once safely off the trail, the individual was handed over to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for further evaluation and care. The HFD’s efficient and prompt rescue operation ensured that the patient received the necessary treatment without undue delay.
