One year after a tragic St. Patrick's Day in Jacksonville Beach that saw the death of 21-year-old James Jones III and injuries to three others in separate shootings, the community continues to seek justice and healing. As reported by First Coast News, investigations by the Jacksonville Beach Police Department persist with no arrests to date in connection to Jones' death. According to a statement obtained by First Coast News, Jones' cousin Stanley Platts II remembers him fondly as "the life of the party" and "just a joy to be around."

With the painful anniversary comes increased efforts to ensure public safety. Action News Jax reports that authorities have ramped up security, implementing a "zero tolerance spring break law enforcement surge" in order to actively prevent further incidents. These enhanced measures come after last year's violence, which also led to Jones' death.

Amid the ongoing investigations and heightened security, Jones' memory was honored during a touching vigil on St. Patrick’s Day. Sporting green balloons and attire, loved ones gathered to remember the young father, whose life was abruptly cut short. Katrina Williams, Jones' mother, told Action News Jax that the vigil is an affirmation of her son's lasting influence, declaring, "Green is our color now."

Despite the outpouring of love and the intensified police presence, the case of Jones' murder remains open with no new leads, according to the Jacksonville Beach police. Williams further seeks to transform her grief into action with plans to start the 5K Foundation in her son's honor, which aims to provide support for families who have experienced similar losses.
