The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced a major drug bust in a recent operation dubbed "Operation Baked Beans." The target of the operation was 37-year-old Solomon 'Bean' Roberts, a significant player in the local fentanyl trade. The JSO, through painstaking surveillance and investigation, apprehended Roberts on March 14, seizing an array of illegal substances and weapons from two homes on Jacksonville's Westside.
In the haul detailed by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, officers recovered what amounted to 226,200 potentially fatal doses of fentanyl, weighing in at 452.40 grams. Alongside the potent opioid were 297.9 grams of Promethazine, a sedative; 15.3 grams of Crack Cocaine; 3.38 grams of Ecstasy; 0.4 grams of Cathinone, a stimulant; 351.3 grams of Marijuana; plus a rifle and $11,150 in cash. This decisive strike against the drug trafficking network underscores the gravity and peril of the fentanyl crisis in our communities.
Roberts, the so-called kingpin of this operation, now faces a slew of serious charges including Trafficking in Fentanyl. He is currently detained in the Duval County jail as the legal process moves forward. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in their announcement, emphasized that the arrest is not an isolated victory but a continuance of their initiative to dismantle drug trafficking operations. They signaled more arrests are on the horizon as part of this ongoing crackdown.
The reach and lethality of the narcotics seized cannot be overstated. The quantity of fentanyl alone could have resulted in a staggering number of overdoses, more than triple the capacity of the EverBank Stadium. In the face of such statistics, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reiterated their commitment to aggressively pursue those who peddle these dangerous drugs. Area residents can likely expect further developments as the sheriff's office works in collaboration with the State Attorney’s Office, to ensure that offenders like Roberts are not only caught but fully prosecuted.
