A woman is dead after a dark SUV struck her on Capper Road near Wingate Road around 3 a.m. Wednesday and kept driving, according to police. The crash happened in Jacksonville's College Park neighborhood, just east of Florida State College at Jacksonville's North Campus. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died, police said.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash as a deadly hit-and-run, according to News4JAX. Investigators say the SUV driver continued on without calling for help or providing any information at the scene. As of the report, no arrests had been made and the driver had not been identified.
Witness Points Detectives Toward Lem Turner Road
A witness told police the dark SUV fled the scene heading toward Lem Turner Road, according to Action News Jax. That detail gives detectives a specific direction to focus their search, including nearby home and business security footage that might have captured the vehicle as it left the area. The outlet also noted the crash site sits just east of FSCJ's North Campus, a landmark that helps orient the location within College Park.
