As the spring break festivities wind down and students return to the rigor of academic routines, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is ramping up efforts to ensure the safety of Jacksonville's youngest citizens. In a social media post this week following the re-entry of students into schools, the JSO highlighted the ongoing vigilance of their Traffic Enforcement Unit, specifically concerning the adherence to school zone traffic laws.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, "Spring break is over, and students are back in class this week—but safety never takes a break! 🚸" The post emphasized the fundamental significance of school zone safety, featuring Officer Kristy Monroe in their "Bad Traffic" series. In the video, Monroe is seen pulling over drivers who fail to observe the reduced speed limits vital for school zones. Caught speeding, drivers found themselves accountable before the law, in effort to preach a profound message of safety.
The cautionary narrative by JSO serves not just as a warning but as a reminder: "Follow posted school zone speed limits—no exceptions." They insist, their resolve unwavering, as the law demands attention be paid and distraction be curtailed. They underline the importance of minimizing risks for children, stating, "Stay off your phone while driving in a school zone—it’s the law." Through enforcement and the reinforcing of these laws, JSO continues its commitment to protect the well-being of the community's youth.
