An arrest warrant has been issued for Jerome Thompson, 44, of North Versailles, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month in East Hills, Pittsburgh. Thompson is being charged with criminal homicide following the death of 44-year-old Conrad Rozier. The incident took place on February 18 on East Hills Drive, where Rozier suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. First responders found him critically injured, and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. This information was detailed by Pittsburgh Police and emerged from a report by CBS News Pittsburgh.
Investigators have identified Thompson as a suspect after canvassing homes and reviewing surveillance tapes and cell phone records. He is believed to have fled to Erie after the shooting event. When officials arrived at the scene, they collected multiple shell casings, indicating the possibility of different firearms used. The dark Ford Explorer, seen on surveillance video arriving at Rozier's apartment complex, was registered to Thompson, according to WTAE.
Authorities have also linked Thompson to the crime scene by cell phone tower records, which placed his phone near Rozier's apartment on the day of the murder. No firearms have been recovered despite the evidence of multiple shell casings, suggestive of the involvement of more than one gun belonging to Thompson or at least accessible by him. Alongside homicide, Thompson faces conspiracy and weapons charges, a fact emphasized by court paperwork.
As the investigation continues, officials have not yet disclosed if there are any additional suspects or if Thompson's alleged co-conspirator has been identified. The Pittsburgh police’s Zone 5 detectives behind the Violent Crime Unit are leading the ongoing probe into the fatal shooting, as confirmed by Pittsburgh's Public Safety Blotter.
