The City of Jacksonville, Florida is calling on its residents to roll up their sleeves and join the effort to tidy up the community's natural beauty. This Saturday marks the 30th annual St. Johns River Celebration Cleanup, a significant milestone for the longstanding tradition of environmental stewardship in Duval County. The cleanup drive will see volunteers gathering at more than 40 sites across the county, with a focus on the coastlines, boat ramps, and parks, which have long been the pride of Jacksonville.
The local government unit took to social media to spread the word, encouraging community members to get involved by sharing details of various cleanup locations such as Arlington/Beaches, Urban/Riverside Avondale, Southeast and many other parts of the city, with start times primarily between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., "Join us at one of 40+ sites around Duval County to help keep our coastlines, boat ramps, and parks clean and pristine," the City of Jacksonville's post read.
Volunteers are welcome to show up at designated spots such as 16th Avenue South at the Ocean, Jacksonville Beach and Atlantic Boulevard at the Ocean, with some areas like Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park noting that participants must arrive before 9:30 a.m. to join the cleanup efforts. Other notable locations include the historic areas and community spots like Willowbranch Park and ZenCog Bicycle Company, where locals can contribute to enhancing the beauty and sustainability of their surroundings.
Those participating in the cleanup can look forward to some appreciation for their efforts. The City of Jacksonville has promised a free T-shirt and snack at the Riverside Arts Market, "after the cleanup while supplies last," as stated in the social media announcement. While pre-registration is not required for attendance, individuals under the age of 18 are reminded that they must be accompanied by an adult to partake in these community improvement activities.
