Charlotte-Mecklenburg is gearing up to get its hands dirty for a good cause. This Saturday, residents are invited to participate in The Big Spring Clean, an event aimed at removing litter from several local creek locations. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services, the cleanup is set to take place from 9 a.m. to noon, welcoming volunteers of all ages and abilities.

The initiative has been a pivotal effort in combating pollution in the area's waterways. A previously published article by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services highlighted the astounding collection of 9,000 pounds of trash by volunteers during last year’s cleanup. By contributing to this year's event, community members will not only help to maintain the cleanliness and health of their waterways but also to visibly start to further strengthen the bond of neighborhood through shared environmental stewardship.

Storm Water Services is preparing representatives to be on hand at seven creek locations throughout the community, ensuring that volunteers have the supplies they need, including gloves, trash bags, water, and snacks. In a statement obtained by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services, organizers emphasize that this is an event "suitable for all ages and abilities." It's also a chance to meet neighbors and engage in the collective effort of sprucing up the community.

To take part in The Big Spring Clean, interested individuals are encouraged to register online by visiting StormWater.CharMeck.org and clicking on the Creek Week banner. In an effort to coordinate and manage the turnout, Storm Water Services has made an open call for volunteers to sign up beforehand. For members of the media looking to cover the event, staff will be available to answer questions on Saturday, at 9 a.m., at 1100 Chancellor Park Dr., Charlotte. Environmental specialist Taylor Mebane can be reached at 980-402-4206 to RSVP for media availability.
