In the digital arena, it's a constant game of cat-and-mouse between scammers and the public, this time with a fresh toll scam hitting the airwaves via text messages. Keller Public Safety has issued a scam alert, highlighting a new phishing ploy leveraging the modality of our textual communication, an alert shared to Facebook yesterday.
The post warns that potential victims are being sent texts about toll fees, luring them with a link with the suspicious word "phis," a clear sign of a scam. While the alert doesn’t go into detail, it's safe to assume that clicking on such links could lead to harmful schemes, from stealing personal information to tricking people into giving up money.
To report suspected scams, the public can contact local law enforcement or follow recommended channels, such as the Federal Trade Commission's complaint website.
