In a recent courtroom decision, Kenneth McIsaac was found guilty on numerous felony counts stemming from a home invasion in Lafayette. This conviction, announced on Thursday, relates to a September 24, 2022, incident that terrorized a local family. The case has drawn considerable attention in Contra Costa County for the heinous nature of the crime, as well as McIsaac's subsequent legal journey.

On the day of the incident, after a family outing to the community pool, McIsaac followed a mother and her children into their apartment and initiated a robbery. Brandishing what appeared to be a firearm, later identified as a replica, he coerced the family members into a terrifying situation that involved being bound with duct tape and threatened with kitchen knives for hours. The father of the family managed to free himself, confront McIsaac, and allow his family to escape and call for help.

According to a report by the Contra Costa County website, McIsaac had initially been referred to Mental Health Court for diversion in August 2023 despite opposition from the District Attorney’s Office. After being released to a treatment facility, he fled two months later, leading to his re-arrest on November 14.

The recent conviction includes two counts of kidnapping to commit robbery, two counts of kidnapping for ransom, multiple counts of first-degree residential burglary, felony child abuse, false imprisonment, and criminal threats. In addition, the jury found true enhancements for the use of a deadly weapon in most of the charges. "This verdict holds Kenneth McIsaac accountable for the harm he caused this family," District Attorney Diana Becton commented. "His conviction sends a strong message that violent crimes of this nature will not be tolerated in Contra Costa County."

McIsaac's sentencing is scheduled for June 6 before Judge Mary Ann O’Malley in Martinez. With multiple serious charges against him, he is facing the possibility of life imprisonment for his actions, a severe outcome that speaks to the gravity of his offenses against the Lafayette family.
