King County International Airport has taken a significant step towards sustainability by introducing the first hybrid electric fire truck to its Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) fleet. In a social media announcement, the King County Sheriff's Office expressed its excitement about the new Striker Volterra, a cutting-edge fire-fighting vehicle that marries effectiveness with environmental consciousness. This move positions the airport at the forefront of adopting greener technologies in emergency response services.
The Striker Volterra isn't just an incremental improvement; it's a leap forward, boasting a 3,000-gallon water tank and the capability to pump 1250 gallons per minute. It doesn't dawdle either, hitting 0-50 mph in 25 seconds. "Now we can retire our 30-year-old diesel truck and move on to 'greener' pastures," the King County Sheriff's Office post declared, hinting at the significant upgrade in performance and sustainability. The retirement of the old diesel truck demonstrates a significant shift towards reducing the carbon footprint associated with emergency services.
