Authorities have detained a 19-year-old from Kissimmee, identified as Adam Benouttas, following his alleged participation in a November 2024 street takeover in Orange County. During the disruptive event, a large group obstructed the South John Young Parkway and Central Florida Parkway intersection, where stunts were performed and a fire set, leading to harassment and damage.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol's release, Benouttas is accused of being a primary "slider," engaging in dangerous driving stunts, including performing donuts around the flames above. In the chaotic aftermath, the search was on for 30 individuals linked to the defiant mob.
Though not a witness to the event herself, Orange County resident Brooke Steffanus expressed her concern to WESH, remarking, "Obviously, it's dangerous and a little nerve-wracking." She emphasized the importance of personal safety in such scenarios, advising, "The number one most important thing you can do in any situation, whether it's a group doing that or road rage on the freeway, just try to do your best to keep yourself safe and those around you."
Benouttas, now in custody, is facing multiple charges including disorderly conduct, inciting a riot, and aggravated rioting while his initial court appearance took place yesterday after a collective investigation effort involving the FHP, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, and Orlando police; meanwhile, troopers are insistent that they will persist in issuing arrest warrants and deterring future episodes of roadway rebellion.
For those encountering street racing or takeovers, the FHP advises remaining calm, avoiding engagement, pulling over safely if possible, and reporting incidents to *347 or 911.
