The National Weather Service in Knoxville has provided a detailed forecast for the coming week, highlighting a mix of sunny days, potential severe weather conditions, and the likelihood of precipitation which includes snow showers. As of this morning, Knoxville residents can expect fair skies and a calm wind, with a sunny high near 58 degrees.
However, conditions are set to shift tonight as clouds increase, setting the stage for a more tumultuous Tuesday. Fire danger will be elevated due to low afternoon humidity values, "with readings in the 15 to 25 percent range expected," reports NWS Knoxville. A strong cold front is forecasted to move in late Tuesday night, and it will bring with it, strong south to southeast winds, prompting a High Wind Watch for the east Tennessee mountains and foothills.
In addition to concerns about strong winds, the NWS has noted a low risk of severe thunderstorms late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. There's potential for these storms to retain their strength as they move from middle Tennessee into neighboring areas.
As the cold front moves through the area, Wednesday night into Thursday could see light snow accumulations in the mountains of east Tennessee and southwest Virginia. The NWS bulletin does not call for spotter activation at this time, but locals are advised to monitor updates on the high winds and severe storm potential. The remainder of the week fluctuates with chances of rain showers, particularly Friday night and into the weekend, where there is a 50 percent chance of rain Saturday night, and a 30 percent chance of showers come Sunday.
Residents in East Tennessee, Southwest North Carolina, and Southwest Virginia are urged to stay alert as fire danger increases. The region is expected to experience a week of varied weather, with conditions ranging from clear skies to potential storms and even snowfall.
