
A tragic incident on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 at Exit 407 claimed the life of a Knoxville man this morning. According to the WVLT report, the victim was identified as 28-year-old Charles Cox, who was driving a Toyota Tacoma when it veered off the road and collided with a parked tractor-trailer around 2 a.m.
The crash, which involved the parked tractor-trailer hauling rocks, obliged authorities to shut down several interstate lanes until about 6 a.m. The parked tractor-trailer that Cox hit, the driver was not injured. This unfortunate event resulted in him being pronounced dead at the scene by the Sevierville Police Department (SPD), as detailed in the reports from Knox News.
SPD stated that their preliminary investigation indicated that "the driver of the tractor trailer had parked on the shoulder to rest" when the accident happened. This information was provided by WATE, highlighting the seemingly unforeseeable circumstances of the crash. Critical response units, including the Northview Fire Department, Sevier County Ambulance Service, TDOT, and Sevier County Medical Examiner, also responded to the scene.
