La Jolla recently unveiled a new gateway sign, a welcoming beacon that greets locals and visitors alike at Torrey Pines Road and La Jolla Shores Drive. Designed by local architect Trace Wilson, the sign is a nod to the community's connection to its picturesque surroundings, brandishing colors symbolic of its renowned beaches. The installation was made possible by the efforts of the Rotary Club of La Jolla, which contributed financial support for the project.
Last Friday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official unveiling of the sign. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, volunteers and city government representatives, including San Diego City Council President Joe LaCava, attended the event. LaCava thanked the community and cited Cindy Goodman and the local and regional Rotary clubs as the "glue" that brought the project to fruition.
The new sign joins the likes of other recent community markers in San Diego, each manifesting the unique spirit and history of their neighborhoods. Notable examples include the wooden arch in Old Town and the vibrant welcome pillar in Convoy. According to FOX5 San Diego, Point Loma is also working on a gateway sign, set to be placed near Liberty Station, though a definitive date for its debut remains uncertain.
