The Branigan Cultural Center in Las Cruces is gearing up to showcase youthful creativity with its annual All-City High Schools Senior Art Show, opening with fanfare from 5-7 p.m. this Friday, March 7. According to the City of Las Cruces, the opening night will spotlight the talents of senior high school students with an awards ceremony kicking off at 5:30 p.m.
Art lovers brace yourselves for an eclectic mix from over 70 student artists representing five local high schools - Mayfield, Las Cruces, Organ Mountain, Centennial, and Alma d’Arte, all pieces serve as testament to the arduous journey, the honing of skill, borne from years within classroom sanctuaries that foster the arts. Their works, spanning ceramics, mixed media, paintings, drawings, and digital art, will be on display from March 7 through April 19. Judging this profusion of young talent will be a three-person panel, tasked with selecting winners across differing categories, including a coveted Best of Show honor.
The public is welcome to engage with this celebration of emerging artistry without the hurdle of an admission fee. The Branigan Cultural Center, located at 501 N. Main St., is a cultural hub opened Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Its walls have long played silent witness to the flowering of local talent, and this exhibit promises to sustain that tradition. For those looking to plan a visit or in need of additional information, the center's website and a call to (575) 541-2154 / TTY 711 should suffice.
Incentivizing the students' competitive spirit, prizes are provided through the generosity of the Foundation for Las Cruces Museums and the Potters Guild of Las Cruces, ensuring that these young artists not only gain exposure but also recognition for their dedicated artistry. If the allure of innovative high school art piques your interest or if you seek to support the future of the arts, mark your calendars for an event that promises both inspiration and insight into the creative minds soon to inherit the stage of our local art scene.
