The National Weather Service Las Vegas has issued an update, and it looks like more showers and snow are on the horizon. According to an early morning report by NWS Las Vegas, the area has experienced a speckling of rainfall, with some regions only receiving light sprinkles. In contrast, others, such as the North Las Vegas Airport, registered a modest 0.03 inches of precipitation.

Weather advisories remain in effect for parts of the region, especially at higher elevations, where winter storm warnings and weather advisories continue through Friday afternoon. Snowfall between 8 and 14 inches has been recorded at some eastern Sierra locations, and additional inches are anticipated as the weather system carries through. Meanwhile, commuters along Highway 95 should be prepared for 2 to 4 inches more snowfall due to a moving cold front that has been bringing gusty northwest winds to the area.

Wind advisories are also in place for several counties, with San Bernardino County expecting gusts exceeding 40 mph, a situation not too different for central and southern Clark County. Las Vegas Valley might be spared from more substantial rainfall this afternoon, thanks to the rain shadow effect, but additional precipitation up to 0.05 inches could still occur in the area. As the cold front gathers pace, significant snowfall of 6 to 10 inches is forecast for mountain regions east of Highway 93.

Looking ahead to the weekend, residents can look forward to moderating temperatures and clearer skies as the tumultuous weather patterns begin to exit. However, the forecast by NWS Las Vegas warns of a potential new low-pressure system, which could bring back gusty winds, cooler temperatures, and another round of precipitation in the following week. Along the Colorado River Valley, gusty winds may impact Lake Mohave with challenging boating conditions over the weekend. By Sunday, conditions should improve, but the respite appears to be brief, with the weather pattern expected to resume early next week.

Aviators should expect some challenges, as intermittent showers and strong southwest winds (up to 25-35 knots) are forecasted, which could impact flights. While the weather should clear by Friday, gusty northwest winds may still cause delays. Spotters in the region are urged by NWS Las Vegas to report significant weather events as part of standard procedures.
