Las Vegas Metro Police Sergeant Kevin Menon finds himself under the weight of a new indictment, as court documents made public on Friday charge him with gross misdemeanor counts of Capturing an Image of a Private Area of Another Person. This latest indictment adds to previous allegations of illicit arrests and child pornography possession, FOX5 Las Vegas reports. Menon is now facing a total of 28 charges related to the hidden camera accusations, which span a period from late September to late October of the previous year.
According to the indictment, the cameras were surreptitiously installed in the vents of a bathroom—allegedly by Menon—while he was already out on bail for his other pending charges. Menon is scheduled to reappear in court on April 21 for his case regarding illegal arrests, but now must also contend with the fallout of these new allegations. In what may be deemed a disturbing revelation, a variety of electronic devices were seized from Menon's home during a search, including laptops and iPhones that were part of the home's security system, as detailed by KTNV Channel 13.
Despite the growing number of charges, Menon has maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty and alleging that he is being subjected to malicious prosecution. He claims that this is retaliation for reporting misconduct and racist behavior among his superiors at the Metro Police Department. In a twist that adds another layer to the already complex case, new documents obtained by Channel 13 note that Menon alleged racist comments and messages within the department in an Internal Affairs complaint.
During his arraignment on the fresh allegations, prosecutors pushed to set cash bail at a hefty $1 million, arguing their belief that Menon represents a flight risk and claiming there to be a high probability of conviction. However, the court ultimately decided to set Menon's bond at $56,000. Menon's next appearance in court will thus be double-loaded, addressing not only accusations of abusing police authority but also these new charges surrounding the hidden cameras, with the deepening legal battle looming large on the horizon.
