Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium area is set for a transportation change as UPWIN Air Taxi Ride Share announces plans for a new air taxi hub near the venue. The facility will include four landing pads and a Raiders-themed welcoming center, aimed at enhancing the game day experience by providing quick transport for fans. According to FOX5 Vegas, the air taxis are expected to shuttle passengers in about three minutes, reducing traditional travel times, with rides starting at $30 per person.
Robert Lauer, CEO of UPWIN and the enterprising mind behind the Las Vegas Spaceport initiative, articulated the scope of this project. "As traffic congestion continues to grow, UPWIN is delivering a faster, more efficient transportation solution," Lauer expressed to Las Vegas Review-Journal. He emphasized, that with the Raiders Station, they're "setting the standard for an air mobility revolution that will redefine how people move around Las Vegas."
The project, currently pending approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, plays into a broader vision that includes a seamless network connecting luxury hotels, shopping centers, and entertainment venues across Vegas. Lauer's strategy aims to position the Vegas Valley as a hub for advanced air travel, serving not only sports fans and concert-goers but also the general public seeking efficient travel options. The company also plans to provide emergency air ambulance services, offering direct flights to hospitals and utilizing connections to the Las Vegas Executive Airport/Spaceport.
While the initial operations are expected to utilize conventional helicopters, there's chatter about a transition to electric-powered helicopters, as soon as they receive certification. This shift represents a move toward sustainability and away from traditional, fuel-dependent rotorcraft. Lauer expects these air taxis to operate along "sky highways" at 500 feet, which is lower than the 1,000-foot altitude typically used by air tour helicopters over the Strip, as per Las Vegas Review-Journal.
