Longmont residents looking to add a touch of green to their landscapes can once again take part in the city's Spirit of Arbor Day Tree Sale. Launched today, the annual event is a community effort spearheaded by Forestry Services, offering a selection of trees at the significantly reduced price of $50, which includes tax. This initiative not only makes trees more accessible to the public but also supports urban reforestation efforts in the area.
Given the popularity of the program, it operates on a lottery system from March 3-9, allowing residents to choose up to two alternate species, should their first preference be unavailable. "If you are selected for a tree, you will be notified on Monday, March 10," according to the City of Longmont. For those who don't manage to secure a tree through the lottery, they have the opportunity to possibly purchase one beginning Monday, March 17, if any remain.
Trees have long been praised for their ecological benefits, providing much-needed oxygen, improving air quality, and offering shelter for wildlife. Programs like these also stir community engagement, encouraging residents to invest in their local environment and to take a more active role in the beautification of their city through planting and nurturing these trees. With trees being delivered during the week of April 21, participants will receive an email from the City with specifics on delivery arrangements after the sale has closed.
