An armed confrontation near the University of Southern California has left no injuries after the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) engaged and ultimately arrested a 44-year-old man who had threatened to shoot police officers and claimed to possess a grenade and a handgun.

According toNBC Los Angeles, officers responded to the 2300 block of Scarff Street on Tuesday evening, after receiving calls from Adrian Uribe, who self-reported his suicidal intentions and threats against law enforcement. Despite containment efforts and negotiations, Uribe emerged from his apartment brandishing what seemed to be a handgun, prompting officers to open fire.

Additional details from a statement made by LAPD's newsroom indicate that Uribe was not struck by gunfire and retreated into his apartment and continued to remain barricaded. It was noted that the officers discovered that the supposed explosive devices were non-existent and instead found a black and brown plastic replica gun at the scene.

Uribe was taken into custody and has since been booked for criminal threats. In the wake of the incident, the LAPD's Force Investigation Division is conducting an ongoing inquiry to analyze the situation further, as per LAPD.
