
An explosion and subsequent fire rocked Lake Cove Resort near Dandridge on Thursday, resulting in at least one individual being airlifted with life-threatening injuries. The Jefferson County EMA Director, Brad Phillips, confirmed the incident involved an RV at the resort, though the cause of the fire or explosion remains undetermined with investigations ongoing, as per a report by WVLT News. Dandridge police noted the event occurred outside city limits.
The injured man, aged 62, was reportedly resting in his camper when the explosion took place. At least two campers were affected by the blaze. According to a WATE report, this man was then taken by helicopter to an area hospital. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s arson unit has been drafted in to investigate the cause of the explosion.
Jeff Coffey, the Jefferson County Sheriff, stated that the fire was called in on Thursday afternoon at the resort located along Oak Grove Road. The resort is known for offering cabin and RV rentals. Additional details, including the full extent of injuries sustained and other circumstances surrounding the incident, are yet to be released.
