An early morning collision today between a train and a vehicle in downtown Durham has prompted a partial road closure and left one man injured. The Durham Police Department reported via social media at approximately 6:55 a.m. that East Main Street would be closed between Angier Avenue and North Elizabeth Street due to the accident, as noted by CBS 17. The crash, which involved a white sedan and a train, occurred around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of East Main Street and North Elizabeth Street.

Authorities confirmed that the adult male driver of the sedan was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were non-life-threatening. ABC11 is currently seeking more information regarding the incident and any potential additional injuries. The white sedan was later towed off the tracks while police continued to investigate at the scene.

According to coverage by WRAL News, the train involved was a freight train. Their news crews witnessed the aftermath of the collision, with the white sedan appearing to be pushed up against the freight train, yet the car did not seem to be badly damaged. Police and EMS responded promptly to the crash, which is still under investigation.
