Early this morning, an attempted armed robbery near a Durham tire shop resulted in one man being shot, according to the Durham Police Department. The incident, which occurred shortly after 2 a.m. near Mavis Tire, is currently under investigation. ABC11 reports that the man sustained non-life-threatening injuries during what was believed to be a robbery attempt.
The victim was found injured near the 2700 block of Hillsborough Road, where Mavis Tires and Brakes is located, and was immediately taken to a hospital by emergency medical services. A statement obtained by WRAL detailed that, the crime scene was actively investigated for several hours with a focus on the business's office area, and forensic teams were deployed at the location. Despite the ongoing investigation, no suspects have been apprehended at the time of this reporting.
CBS17 has shared that in the wake of the shooting, tightened security and police presence in the vicinity were notably increased. While specifics on the victim's current condition were not disclosed, his injuries were confirmed as non-life-threatening by the officers on the scene.
