
An incident yesterday night left a 57-year-old man severely injured after he was stabbed in the eye at a Manhattan subway station, officials said. The attack occurred at the 14th St.-Union Square station shortly before 1 a.m., where an argument escalated into violence. According to ABC7NY, the man was wounded with some sort of sharp object and the assailant fled the scene immediately following the altercation.
The incident appears to have been sparked by a verbal dispute, the nature of which remains unclear. Police, said the altercation led to the stabbing, and the assailant, who has not been captured, reportedly left the subway station on foot. As detailed by NY Daily News, emergency services transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital where he has been listed in stable condition.
Investigating officers have turned to the public for assistance, releasing surveillance footage of a person of interest. In the footage, the individual is seen wearing a green hoodie and black leather jacket, police are hoping that someone will recognize the subject.
