Queens authorities are currently on a manhunt following an alarming incident in a subway station where a young boy was attacked and his mother threatened by an unidentified woman wielding a knife. This assault took place at the 21st Street-Queensbridge station on the F train's northbound platform, around midday of February 23.
As reported by NBC New York, the 7-year-old boy and his mother, aged 37, were accosted by a stranger who shoved the child to the ground. When the mother intervened, the assailant pushed the boy again, this time in the face. After the physical altercation, the perpetrator brandished a knife, intimidating both the child and his mother before fleeing the scene. Last seen boarding an MTA bus, the suspect remains at large.
The minor injuries sustained by the boy involved pain in his leg, for which he was treated at the location by emergency medical services. The mother was left unscathed, physically, in the incident. The NYPD has since disseminated surveillance footage to the public in the hopes of apprehending the suspect. NBC New York released a descriptive account of the incident along with the surveillance images.
Additional details from AM New York further describe the suspect as a female who, upon shoving the boy as the train arrived, ominously declared, "I will do it again." The threat escalated when she pulled a knife on the mother, threatening, "I’ll cut you," before escaping the subway station by boarding a Q100 bus. The NYPD has made a plea to the public, asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers. A detailed description of the woman—last seen in eyeglasses, dark pants, and a tri-color coat—and the means to submit tips can be found through AM New York’s reporting on the event.
Both the 114th Precinct and NYPD Transit District 20 are involved in the investigation. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS, with options for Spanish as well by dialing 888-57-PISTA.
