Maricopa city officials recently made a strategic journey to Washington, D.C., to transform dialogue into tangible advancements for their community. Amongst the attendees were Mayor Nancy Smith, Councilmembers AnnaMarie Knorr, Vincent Manfredi, and Intergovernmental Affairs Director Katy Proctor, as per the City of Maricopa. They set out to advocate for important initiatives, including the SR 347 road widening project—crucial for enhancing resident safety and improving transportation fluidity.
A hallmark of the trip was the series of meetings with influential Congressional members. The Maricopa delegation conferred with Congressman Eli Crane and other Arizona representatives such as Congressman Paul Gosar, Congressman Andy Biggs, Congressman Greg Stanton, and Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari. The city's leaders also engaged with staffers from the offices of Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego, in addition to Congressmen David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani. According to a Maricopa City announcement, Mayor Smith has said, “Every conversation we had in Washington reinforced that our federal partners understand Maricopa’s needs and are ready to help.”
"The response from lawmakers and staff was overwhelmingly positive," Mayor Smith told Maricopa city officials. This new approach, city officials believe, would not only shave time off of project completions but also ensure a more prudent expenditure of federal funds.
