Mayor Richard Bissen of Maui is setting off on a brief sojourn, trading island vistas for the mainland’s bustle from tonight until this coming Saturday, March 22. Announced by the County of Maui, his temporary departure for California coincides with the 80th National Session of the Mayors’ Institute on City Design, an event slated from March 19-21.
While the mayor focuses on urban design discussions, Josiah Nishita, the County of Maui Managing Director, will serve as acting mayor to maintain governance. His role follows the County Charter, ensuring leadership remains in place while Mayor Bissen is out of state.
