Tube City Cafe, a bar in McKeesport linked to various crimes, including a recent fatal shooting, has been closed for the betterment of the community. Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala announced the closure after a meeting between the county's Nuisance Bar Task Force, McKeesport police, and the Pennsylvania State Liquor Control Board with the bar's owner, according to WPXI. The owner agreed to the license's closure and sale, which will happen later.
At the root of the decision to shut down the establishment were multiple instances of illegal activity, including, but not limited to, firearms violations, aggravated assaults, narcotics offenses, and harboring wanted individuals. Darnell Ross Jr., 37, tragically lost his life in a shooting inside the bar at the end of February, an incident that followed several other serious calls to the establishment over the past two years. "I’m appreciative that we were able to reach an agreement that puts the safety of people and first responders in McKeesport first," DA Zappala stated, per WPXI.
DA Zappala's office cited the diligence of the Nuisance Bar Task Force along with law enforcement partners as vital in addressing dangers like those present at Tube City Cafe. The concerted effort aims to protect the McKeesport community from establishments that become hotbeds for illicit activities. According to the statements reported by WTAE, this proactive approach stemmed from an urgent need to curb the trend of criminal incidents associated with the now-closed bar.
